Ship it before it's pretty

Most of my products went live before they had a finished logo. That's on purpose — a working thing earns the right to be polished, not the other way around.

Half the marks on my logo page still say “in progress.” STAKE, PLUG, my own studio — the product shipped before the identity did. That’s not me being behind. That’s the order I choose on purpose.

A logo doesn’t book a job. A working deal engine does. A site that takes a text at 11pm does. So when I start something, the first version that goes out is the one that does the thing — even if it’s wearing a placeholder wordmark and a color I’ll change next week. The polish comes after, once the thing has earned it by working.

This is why the whole site has a Proof Mode. I’d rather show you the honest status — concept, self-built, one real paying client — than dress a demo up as a business. A screenshot of a live app beats a mockup of a perfect one every time. If it’s not real yet, I say so.

The trap I watch other people fall into is spending three weeks on a brand for a product that hasn’t proven anyone wants it. I’ve done the opposite: build the smallest real version, put it in front of someone, and let what happens next tell me whether it deserves the brand. Titanium Detailing got the full treatment — brand, site, a private tool to run the day — because it was a paying client with real work to protect. It earned the polish.

Ship it before it’s pretty. Then, if it works, make it beautiful — on purpose, not out of fear.
